“Another Day ~ Another Dollar”

“Another day ~ another dollar” I remember my grandfather saying that as he went off t0 work every day.  Today the dollar doesn’t get you very far. The economy is bad and I believe it will get worse before it gets better and we should all have a back up plan.

What is your back up plan? Have you even been thinking of one? Or are you just going to go off to work each and every day thinking “If I can just hold out things will get better”.

What do you want to get better? Your working conditions, your paycheck, your boss, your benefits, etc… the list could go on but I think you get the point.

When my grandfather was young there wasn’t any one out there preaching that you should enjoy our job. The only thought was how can I support my family. In today’s economy, most of us are not thinking about the conditions. We are thinking about how we can support our families on the paycheck we are bring home…not if we like our jobs. We don’t have the luxury of wanting the perfect job with the prefect working conditions. We have to pay the bills ~ right?

I wanted to be an interior designer but my Mom told me no because there were thousands of people out there do that. She wanted me to pick a career where I would have some job security. I could go into interior design after I finished going to college for a real career. So I became a nurse. Yes, I loved nursing but it wasn’t my passion.  Yes, in some ways my Mother was right. About 3 years ago I did take interior design classes and found out that with the economy in the slumps no one really wants to spend their hard earned money on getting design help for their homes.

When my children were getting ready for college, I told them go into something they would enjoy doing and are ready to do everyday. Be happy going to work because life is to short to hate your job. Wow, little did I know how the world would change since then. Most of us out there looking for work will take anything just to make a living. Ouch ~ that hurts. I don’t know if I would have told my children any different knowing what I do today.  I might have thought harder about it.

What I am really asking is how do you see your life in the next few years?

I for one will not be sitting back and waiting for the world to wake up.  I woke up and realized that the way to take control of my life and start making money was through the internet. But then I realized I had no idea how and where to start.  And so my journey began……….

  1. Great blog! I agree… in today’s world, loving what you do is the most important thing. I went back to school 2 years ago to get my degree in criminal justice… because I wanted to be a CSI. I love doing what I do now (internet marketing), but it’s just not “fulfilling” to me… in the next 5 years, I will have gotten my bachelors degree in criminal justice, I will be a CSI somewhere… and I will be happy (ier)! In 5 years, I also see myself living the life “I” know I deserve. 🙂

    Hi Debi.
The world and the economy has changed. I have been self employed for most of my life and have had several businesses. All were successful to greater or lesser degree. However, I could see that the future economy was going to be online so I searched around and started websites. I was unsuccessful at the time. I never gave up and finally in 2011/2012 I started to learn what it takes to earn a living online and have been working steadily putting the pieces together. You are doing the same and I know you too will achieve your goals.
